SOME COMMON REASON WHY TODDLERS/ BABY DO NOT EAT FRUITS AND GREEN VEGETABLES.

Happy New Year mommies, permit me to wish us all prosperity, happiness, good health in this new year. May the year usher us into good tidings. As parents, mom have you ever wonder why your baby is rejecting that fruits and vegetables. The answers to your questions is not far fetched. In this episode, I will be sharing with us, the common reason why our toddlers and babies tend not to eat fruits and vegetables. I hope this little piece will be beneficial to someone out there.

Happy Reading!

The three main reasons why your toddler/baby refuses to eat fruits and green vegetables can be any of these three reasons.

1. They are not used to the fruits and vegetables.

2. They are use to one particular taste of food/meal.

3. Some babies tend to have allergic reactions to some particular fruits and/ vegetables. Although mostly to fruits.

I recall when my son was 4 month old,  his pediatrist told me to introduce fruits to him. He was solely on exclusive breastfeeding. She said that if he does not test them now  he will develop intolerant which might result into allergic reaction later. No doubt, this is one major and primary reason why most babies do not eat a particular kind of fruits and/ veggies, because they were not introduced at an early stage of eating.

It is advisable that, at 6 month as parents/mothers we need to introduce light solid food, because at this stage the baby's intestines is well developed to accept such light meals like vegetables, cereals, rice puddings, beans puddings, potatoes puddings etc. This is the stage when you (mom) should introduce different kinds of vegetables to your baby if you want them to continue to eat such meals as they grow older. if you let them arrive at an older age before introducing these fruits to them, they might not be so much excited into taking it.

The first 4½month is considered the Stage 1 of introducing food to your baby. At this stage they are already use to eating one particular food such as cereal, pap, milk. Also remember as your baby grows, their taste bud is also changing. Hence if you want to eat fruits and vegetables, you need to start early.

As early as 5 month which is the second stage of introducing food to your baby.  Although some starts at 6 month. At this stage, your baby's body is well develop to accept Vegetables and fruits.

This is where most mothers missed it as parents, we should understand that solid food is not only cereals.

At this stage, the fruits can be blended before feeding to your baby. Another important point here is, you don't have to introduce so many different kind of fruits at once. You can start with 2 - 3 different type of fruits together for them, while also observing their reaction. This will help to know also as a mother, which fruits/veggies your baby has allergy and intolerant to.

Below are list of fruits I introduced to Cosmo when he was 4/5 Month old.

*Apples
*Pear
*Apricot
*Plum
*Banana
*Cherry
*Strawberry
*Kiwi

As mentioned earlier, you don't have to introduce the whole fruits at once. It is advisable to introduce one fruit or two fruits per Time, pending when they reach the second stage of introducing ( 6 month).

For the vegetables.

*Spinach
*Green beans
*Peas
*Broccoli
*Carrot
*Potatoes
*Zucchini
*Pumpkin
*Cauliflower

There is no limitation to the kind of vegetables to introduce to your baby. You can add other vegetables as you think might be nourishing and has health benefit for your child.

This are what works for me. I hope it work for mums and parents out there. Although I am not a dietician ( Food Doctor), this information are well consulted from my baby's Pediatrist. As a  mom, getting this information excits me and thought to share with you moms out there.  I am pleased to share with other moms or moms whose babies might be finding it difficult to accept fruits and vegetables at the second stage of meals, and also to moms who is thinking of how to go about introducing fruits and vegetables to their babies. I hope this helps in what ever way possible. We all know that vegetables and fruits has lot of benefits not just for adult but can also be beneficial for the growth of your baby.

Early introduction is the key.
